Outreach programme: consultant visits to rural hospitals
B Gaede, N H McKerrow
Abstract
Poor access to particularly specialist services in rural areas is a global phenomenon. Specialist consultant visits as part of a larger health care system can improve access both to specialsit care in the periphery, and also improve referral to a regional or central service. The article describes expereinces of conultant visits as well as outlines key components of a systematic approach to provide consultant support to rural hospitals.
