Febrile neutropaenia, second to the malignancy itself, is the most significant contributing factor to the mortality rate of children diagnosed with cancer. There have been major advances in supportive care and the mortality rate related to infectious complications. The prompt aggressive intervention with the use of empiric antibiotics has reduced the mortality in this group of patients
