Sports-related concussion relevant to the South African football environment
J Patricios
Abstract
Concussion is a trauma-induced change in mental state that may or may not involve loss of consciousness. Rather than adopt a "one-size-fits-all" approach to managing concussed athletes, modern concussion strategies are individualised based on a thorough clinical evaluation that may include the use of computerised brain function test batteries. Football, as a contact sport, follows international guidelines but has some unique features that warrant discussion.
